Levels of Disclosure At present, two levels of Disclosure are available: “Standard” and “Enhanced”. A third level of Disclosure (“Basic”) is expected to become available at some point in the future. The level of Disclosure issued is specified by legislation – our Countersignatory will determine this at the time he countersigns the form. Standard Disclosures are issued primarily for positions that involve working with children or vulnerable adults or for certain professions where a high level of probity is expected (such as for members of the legal and accountancy professions). These detail all convictions held on the Police National Computer, including current and ‘spent’ convictions, together with details of any cautions, reprimands, or final warnings. Enhanced Disclosures are issued for posts involving a far greater degree of contact with children or vulnerable adults (such as caring for, supervising, training, or being in sole charge of such people), certain statutory purposes (such as for applicants of gaming or lottery licences), or for certain professions (such as medical practitioners or pharmacists). In addition to the background checks performed under a Standard Disclosure, a check is made on local police records and additional non-conviction information felt relevant by a Chief Officer of Police may be released. Basic Disclosures, when they become available, will be appropriate for all types of employment not covered by the higher-level Disclosures. They will only contain details of convictions from the Police National Computer that are considered ‘unspent’ for the purposes of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. |
