Introduction
Further training is available to persons whose requirements differ from or
exceed those of most UK workplaces. In general, training is provided to
members of OUFAU or on an in-house basis to external organisations. If a
course matching your specific requirements is not listed below then please contact
us as we may be able to provide what you are looking for. In the
unlikely event that we are unable to provide the training you are seeking we may
be able to offer contact details for another organisation with a course matching
your requirements.
Advanced First Aid
(40 hours)
The next Advanced First Aid course will be held 9-10 and 16-17 February 2008
(two weekends).
Individuals who are not members of OUFAU but are interested in attending this course will need to submit
their curricula vitarum to demonstrate their suitability for this training programme.
Automated
External Defibrillation (4 hours)
The AED course programme has been developed in the light of feedback received from
participants on our pilot courses, and the pre-entry requirement for OUFAU members who wish to
receive this training is that they hold a current First Aid at Work
certificate.
A package of training, certification, and audit conforming to the Resuscitation
Council (UK)'s recommendations is available to organisations who wish to
purchase a defibrillator.
Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Laryngeal Mask
Airway in CPR (3 hours)
We are accredited by Intavent Orthofix, manufacturer of the LMA, to provide
this training both within our organisation and to healthcare
professionals. External individuals or organisations requesting this
training would need to satisfy us that they have a need for these skills and
that their clinical work is conducted under appropriate supervision.
Courses are available by arrangement - please click here
to make a booking.
Oxygen Administration (3 hours)
This course covers the use of medical oxygen as an adjunct to
resuscitation. Basic resuscitation techniques (patient assessment,
management of an unconscious patient, cardiopulmonary resuscitation) are
revised, simple airway devices are introduced, and the use and maintenance of
oxygen equipment is discussed.
Oxygen equipment is typically made available in those workplaces where personnel
are operating in confined spaces.

Medical Gases (3 hours)
This course covers the same syllabus as the oxygen administration course,
but with the additional inclusion of the use of Entonox (a 50/50 mixture of
nitrous oxide and oxygen) for analgesia.
Courses are available by arrangement - please click here
to make a booking.
Expedition First Aid (time length depends upon
nature of expedition)
This training is provided to members of official expeditions (defined as
those persons whose travel plans have been approved by the Oxford University
Expeditions Council), as part of the medical backup provided by the University
and are generally held in Hilary Term of each year. Alternative
arrangements can be made for groups departing during the Christmas and Easter
Vacations.
Dedicated training sessions are provided for each approved
expedition so that the course is tailored to the specific activities of each
group and the particular hazards that each may face.
Expeditions departing in 2007 should get in contact early in Hilary Term 2007
to discuss their needs and to make arrangements for training.
